Customizing a Standard Tap Handle

Customizing a Standard Tap Handle

Brian reached out to us knowing he needed a new tap handle for a brand relaunch, just 50 days away. After purchasing Petty Thieves, he wanted his new handle to make a statement.

As a new owner ordering fewer than 100 handles, we recommended he start from one of our standard shapes to keep pricing reasonable. Working with Brian and his graphic designer, we settled on our 10" round-top handle in a custom green to match the brand's color.

Brian's original vision was to have the brand art carved directly into the wood using a CNC router, but that level of detail came with a price tag that didn't fit his budget. Instead, we used a new technique with similar effect. Using a low-power laser setting, we burned away the green paint to reveal the brand art in raw maple wood underneath. The contrast between the green paint and natural wood gave the handle a distinctive look, along with some added texture. We finished the piece with a satin coat to protect it for years to come.

By pairing a standard shape with a few custom touches, we kept the cost of this handle to under $30 a piece. Browse our collection of standard shapes if you're looking for an affordable way to customize your tap handle.
