We meet or exceed American labor and safety standards, engage employees in open dialogue, and treat all stakeholders with fairness and respect.
Everything is made of chemicals so anyone who tells you their products are chemical free is mistaken. We add a small amount of glue to untreated wood from local trees to make our collection of toys, so we do not claim that our toys are additive free. Beyond glue, a few of our rattles feature metal noisemakers, all of which have been tested by an outside lab.

Every toy we make goes through scheduled third-party testing for compliance, including the printed graphics and child-safe finishes used on our other product lines. Engraving takes safety one step further: instead of adding ink, paint, or finish to the wood, we burn the design directly into the surface. That means there is no pigment or coating layer at all. Nothing is added for your child to come into contact with.
The most significant finish-related hazard in consumer products has historically been lead-based paint, common in older toys before stricter federal regulations phased it out. Modern finishes used by reputable manufacturers must meet rigorous safety standards. At Schoolhouse Naturals, we opt to use no finish at all. There is nothing to wonder about, nothing to research, and nothing between your child and the wood.
yes, a few of our rattles use metal parts to make the noise, and these pieces have been thoroughly tested for safety. If you want Schoolhouse Naturals products without metal, you can filter out the specific rattles that use metal components.
